Purpose of the job: To lead the setting to promote and provide safe, high quality education and care. To ensure all children receive a rich and stimulating experience, appropriate to their age band and their stage off development.
Main duties:
- To have a working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS 2021) curriculum and development matters.
- To facilitate inspections by regulatory bodies and implement any recommendations.
- To be able to lead and manage a small team of staff, communicate empathetically, delegate tasks and bond within the group. To recruit, induct, support and train all staff to ensure delivery of high quality childcare.
- To have an understanding in mental health in children and adults (where appropriate)
- To have knowledge and measurable experience of implementing high quality learning opportunities
- To ensure all children are kept safe, have a solid understanding of safeguarding and when to act.
- To conduct staff team meetings and supervisor meetings and identify training needs and requirements (e.g First Aid, Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Food Hygiene and SEND)
- Facilitate transition into primary school for all children, working alongside parents and local primary schools to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible.
- To have working knowledge of ‘Planning in the moment’ and the ‘Curiosity Approach’ To plan activities in the room to enable children to have high quality learning opportunities. To set up the room on a daily basis (pack away setting) and clear away at the end of each session.
- To manage and mentor the Key Worker system, including leading your own group of key children.
- To work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members, liaising closely and building an effective relationship, to achieve the best outcome for children.
- Establish, develop and maintain high level, professional working relationships with local authority, governing bodies and other agencies such as Health. 8. Preserving confidentiality as necessary with parents, other professionals and staff at all times
- To attend Leaders and Managers training on a termly basis and attend any other training courses as required to take responsibility for your development.
- To support meal times (e.g. snack time and lunch) within the setting and to have knowledge of healthy eating, nutrition and oral hygiene.
- To work well under pressure, have a patience, empathy and remain calm when in stressful situations.

Person specification:
Essential criteria
- Hold a relevant Level 3 or above Early Years Education in a childcare qualification or equivalent.
- Have at least 3 years post qualification experience in Childcare, ideally as a Manager, Deputy Manager or Room Leader
- Have working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2021
- Have sound knowledge of child development for children from Birth to Five years.
- Have working knowledge of ‘Planning in the moment’ and the ‘Curiosity Approach’.
- Have working knowledge of child protection procedures.
- Have knowledge and experience of working with children with SEND.
- Be forward thinking and dynamic, be ambitious in what they want to achieve and progressive in where you are leading the Pre-school
- Have excellent communication skills with children, parents and other professionals.
- Have an understanding of play-based approaches to children’s learning and development.

- Hold a current Paediatric First Aid qualification
- Have a friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.

- Forest school experience
- Experience of working in a package way setting in multi-user room.
Terms and condition:
Hours: Up to 39 hours per week (can be discussed)
Working Shift Pattern: 8.45am to 3.30pm
