Job Title: Pre-school Manager
Location: Potterspury Pre-school
Reports to: Management Committee/Board of Trustees
Job Summary:
The Pre-school Manager is responsible for the overall management and development of Potterspury Pre-school, ensuring the delivery of high-quality early years education and care. The manager will lead and inspire a team of practitioners, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and fostering a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for children aged 2-5 years.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Leadership & Management:
- Provide leadership to the staff team, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the pre-school, ensuring smooth running and high standards of care.
- Conduct regular staff meetings, appraisals, supervision meetings, and identify training needs.
2) Curriculum & Learning:
- Plan, implement, and evaluate the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.
- Ensure that educational activities promote children’s physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development.
- Monitor children’s progress and ensure appropriate learning plans are in place.
3) Safeguarding & Welfare:
- Ensure that safeguarding procedures are adhered to and that the welfare of every child is prioritized.
- Serve as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring all staff are aware of their safeguarding responsibilities.
4) Staff Development & Training:
- Manage staff recruitment, induction, and development, maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
- Ensure all staff members have up-to-date training, including safeguarding, first aid, and health & safety.
5)Regulation & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with Ofsted, EYFS, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure the pre-school meets all health and safety requirements.
6)Communication & Partnership:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, carers, and the local community.
- Actively engage parents in their children’s development and learning.
- Work closely with the management committee, keeping them informed of the pre-school’s progress and development.
- Play an active role in fundraising activities.
7) Finance & Administration:
- Alongside the Business Administrator, manage the pre-school’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability.
- Oversee administrative tasks including enrolment, record-keeping, and reporting.
- Seek opportunities for external funding and grants, ensuring the financial health of the pre-school.
Qualifications & Skills:
Essential:
- Level 3 (or above) qualification in Early Years Education or equivalent.
- GCSE level 4 or above in English and Maths.
- Proven experience in a leadership role within an early years setting.
- In-depth knowledge of the EYFS framework.
- Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, and Safeguarding qualifications (or willingness to undertake).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Desirable:
- Previous experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- An understanding or experience of the SENDCo role and the EHCP and Targeted SEND (Higher Needs Funding) application process.
- Experience managing a pre-school or nursery.
- Knowledge of funding streams and financial management.
