The Nursery
Rainbow Corner Windlesham is situated at the Community Hub Pavillion at the Field of Remembrance in the village of Windlesham, Surrey. The nursery is completely open plan, with the interior being very spacious, light and airy and fully equipped to provide areas for all types of activities. Ample car parking is available in the main hub carpark.
The accommodation comprises of a main open plan classroom and a safe, private outdoor play area. The nursery school is located within the Community Hub, which sits within 10 acres of fields and 8 ½ acres of woodland, all of which is easily accessible from both the building and play area. With Forest School trained staff, we fully utilize the extensive natural resources we have on our doorstep and run daily forest school sessions within the grounds of the Field of Remembrance.
Children can attend from birth up to 5 years. We also take children during the holidays up to the age of 8.
Forest School
Louise Bidwell who is our Forest School leader has been trained for 10 years and has enjoyed introducing Forest School to our children. This time spent in the woods allows children’s imaginations to run wild in a safe outdoor environment.
Our sessions run each morning and afternoon enabling children to attend on multiple occasions each week. Our Nursery Practitioners support Louise in running these sessions.
The sessions start with a walk across the Field of Remembrance, this gives us an opportunity to remind ourselves of the safety rules, discuss the day’s weather and look at our surrounding environment. For example, we engage with our senses with questions such as what changes can we see and what can we hear? Who can spot their shadow? A short walk and we soon arrive at our base camp, a circle of log seats where the children share a healthy snack and a drink of milk or water. They are then free to play within the boundaries set. Our resources are mainly natural materials with the addition of gardening tools and kitchen utensils for our mud kitchen. In time we will introduce tools such as peelers for whittling and saws for making wooden slices.
